Paul Rice，英國(guó)籍，現(xiàn)任英國(guó)皇家建筑師學(xué)會(huì)會(huì)員，LEED認(rèn)證專(zhuān)員。畢業(yè)于英國(guó)格拉斯大學(xué)建筑系，后在英國(guó)Bath大學(xué)獲施工經(jīng)濟(jì)與管理碩士學(xué)位。
Paul Rice先生具有近二十年建筑及規(guī)劃設(shè)計(jì)工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)，曾在英國(guó)、新加坡、馬來(lái)西亞、約旦、印度尼西亞等多個(gè)國(guó)家工作過(guò)，在城市設(shè)計(jì)、居住區(qū)規(guī)劃、公共建筑、居住建筑設(shè)計(jì)等方面積累了豐富的經(jīng)驗(yàn)，同時(shí)具備很強(qiáng)的項(xiàng)目協(xié)調(diào)與管理能力。
ABBS：您曾在英國(guó)、新加坡等多個(gè)國(guó)家工作過(guò)，您最喜歡哪個(gè)國(guó)家的建筑風(fēng)格呢？
〓I think style is the wrong idea. Quality buildings exist from every era and culture，the ‘style’ of the building is not important it is the quality of the space that is of real importance. Style is a transient thing； if a building design is well conceived and built it will last beyond its era. To create something ‘stylish’ is important as it is a great opportunity to communicate and allow the building to have meaning for people but the actual style is not important.
我認(rèn)為風(fēng)格是個(gè)錯(cuò)誤的觀念。從每一個(gè)文明時(shí)代所存在的建筑品質(zhì)來(lái)看，建筑的風(fēng)格并不是最重要的，而空間的格局品質(zhì)才是真正的重要的。風(fēng)格只是短暫的事物，如果一個(gè)建筑的設(shè)計(jì)有著很好的構(gòu)思，那么它將會(huì)保持并超越其時(shí)代。創(chuàng)造一些“現(xiàn)代風(fēng)格建筑”是重要的，因?yàn)檫@是一個(gè)絕好的機(jī)會(huì)來(lái)傳達(dá)和賦予建筑對(duì)人們的意義，但是現(xiàn)行的風(fēng)格并不重要。
ABBS：中國(guó)與國(guó)外的建筑有哪些差別？
〓The architecture of each place is wrapped up in the history and culture of the civilization. It is fascinatingto see how many traditional cultural concepts in China work with contemporary building design. Often these are in conflict. That presents great opportunities.
建筑的每一處都包裹在人類(lèi)文明的歷史和文化中�？纯粗袊�(guó)有多少種傳統(tǒng)文化觀念，與當(dāng)代的建筑師一同工作是令人著迷的。這些觀念時(shí)常會(huì)產(chǎn)生沖突，同時(shí)這也意味著很好的機(jī)遇。
ABBS：近年自然災(zāi)害泛濫，建筑安全成憂(yōu)，你對(duì)建筑的安全因素有著怎樣的看法？
〓One of the primary functions of architecture is shelter. Buildings must first protect their occupants.
建筑的主要功能之一是向人們提供庇護(hù)。因此，建筑必須首先滿(mǎn)足保護(hù)居住者的目的。
ABBS：建筑的安全性，節(jié)能性以及觀賞性等你最注重哪方面呢？
〓Appearance is of great importance，it creates presence and a dialogue with the city. However the appearance of a building cannot be the primary driver of the design. Buildings must first be functional and efficient. If the building then responds to its location and climate many of the ideas for ‘a(chǎn)ppearance’ can be made by rational decisions.
外觀是非常重要的，它創(chuàng)造了城市并且表達(dá)了這個(gè)城市。然而建筑的外觀卻不能成為驅(qū)動(dòng)設(shè)計(jì)者的主要因素。建筑首先必須是具有功能性和效率性的。建筑應(yīng)該首先考慮它的位置和氣候等條件，而它的外觀可以通過(guò)各種想法進(jìn)行合理的創(chuàng)造。

〓I believe all aspects of design are important； from the design of a ‘type font’ to the master-plan for a large complex. Everything that is manmade has been designed. There can be great enjoyment in the design of any object.
我認(rèn)為設(shè)計(jì)的各方各面都非常重要，小到設(shè)計(jì)的一個(gè)字體，大到大型綜合設(shè)施的總體規(guī)劃設(shè)計(jì)。所有人造的事物都是一種設(shè)計(jì)。我們能從設(shè)計(jì)一個(gè)事物的過(guò)程中得到莫大的享受。
ABBS：您所設(shè)計(jì)的哪個(gè)作品最令你記憶深刻？
〓The projects I most enjoyable are where we have really been able to incorporate， ideas of sustainability into the design. However I believe sustainability has a much wider opportunities. I believe the projects that have realized some ideas of sustainability: socially，in material use as well as energy use have a much greater meaning.
最令人愉快的項(xiàng)目是我們能夠真正的將可持續(xù)發(fā)展這種觀念融入到設(shè)計(jì)之中。無(wú)論如何，我相信可持續(xù)發(fā)展會(huì)得到更廣闊的機(jī)遇。我認(rèn)為現(xiàn)在的項(xiàng)目已經(jīng)意識(shí)到了關(guān)于可持續(xù)發(fā)展的一些思路：原來(lái)的使用和能源的利用具有同樣的重要的意義。
ABBS：HMD的設(shè)計(jì)在行業(yè)里有哪些優(yōu)勢(shì)？
〓HMD has key advantages； it is young multidisciplinary firm with enormous energy. The senior staff has a great depth of experience both internationally and in the local market，yet we are open to new ideas and ways of working. We have great ambition for the future.
HMD有著關(guān)鍵的優(yōu)勢(shì)；它是個(gè)年輕的綜合性的擁有著巨大能量的公司。這里的高級(jí)職員有著深厚的經(jīng)驗(yàn)，無(wú)論是在國(guó)際市場(chǎng)還是本地市場(chǎng)；但是我們?cè)诠ぷ髦幸廊辉诓粩嗟拈_(kāi)放新思路和新方法。我們對(duì)于未來(lái)有著偉大的理想抱負(fù)。
ABBS：作為設(shè)計(jì)總監(jiān)，您更注重下屬的實(shí)踐能力還是創(chuàng)新能力？
〓Innovation is essential to drive a design firm forward. Each project should question as far as possible the assumptions of the site，the function and the brief. New materials and language give us the chance to build for our age，yet if design is not practical it will fail.
創(chuàng)新是設(shè)計(jì)公司進(jìn)步的基本驅(qū)動(dòng)力。每個(gè)項(xiàng)目都應(yīng)該盡可能的對(duì)它的選址、功能、概要等方面的設(shè)想進(jìn)行質(zhì)疑。新材料和新的表達(dá)能力帶給我們機(jī)會(huì)去建設(shè)我們的時(shí)代，然而如果設(shè)計(jì)是不切實(shí)際的，那么它終將失敗。
